SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a web server and perform various tasks through a command line. The protocol is preferred by many knowledgeable users, as the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be employed for lots of things based on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the website hosting server allows for it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for just about everything - you can install software or restart certain services such as the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is used primarily with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients that permit you to use the protocol if your computer is using a different OS too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though many providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

In case you have a shared hosting account with our company and you'd like to manage your content remotely through SSH, you may get SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not provide this feature by default, you may add it with several mouse clicks via the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the CP, you will see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You can also pick what password you would like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared a number of Help articles where you could find all the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, as well as examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you will be able to add it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. Either way, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with one mouse click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you will discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can input the password which you want to use, as it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as frequently as you want. A full list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a few examples. An extra feature after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You will be able to use SSH to control your content irrespective of which VPS hosting plans you choose when you sign up, due to the fact that all of our packages offer this function as standard. You'll not need to include or allow anything by hand - the moment your server is prepared and you receive the Welcome e mail with the login information, you may connect and begin working on your Internet sites or any software which you want to set up and run on the machine. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account shall be isolated from all of the other accounts within the physical server, you shall be able to do anything you'd like without any restrictions. You'll be able to set up any app which you need and that will run on a Linux-based server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases fast and easy.
